Graphic design.
When AlterNet chooses a new special coverage area, a set of banners and buttons are required. It’s a delicate process that often avoids using traditional imagery that reinforces stereotypes or bad frames. I’ve created the banners for: Health & Wellness, Reproductive Justice & Gender, Democracy & Elections, Sex & Relationships, and Immigration.
Fundraising campaigns, new issues and newsletters, events, external advertising… all of these things need good, branded imagery to announce their arrival through badges, ads and widgets.
Email newsletters are still probably the #1 way to push content to your community. But good design is a must here, and it takes a clean eye to make an attractive newsletter that still yields results.
I was asked to create simple business cards for the entire AlterNet staff, who are strewn across the nation. I was responsible for design as well as print production oversight.
When the web just isn’t enough: time to call in the postcards and flyers. I love putting together handouts for conferences, parties, mailings, you name it. I also work with an incredible print production manager who helps me choose the appropriate materials for my clients’ budgets.
After we finished the Surf Reality website, Robert was pleased enough with my work there to ask me to design his business cards, as well as the postcard for his newest show, Radical Vaudeville.
When I worked as the Creative Adminstrator of the Bowery Poetry Club, one of my jobs was to create postcards for various highlighted shows there.
