Speaking engagements. In addition to the social media workshops mentioned below, I’m available for keynotes, panels, class appearances, and much, much more. I’ve spoken at a number of conferences, including Netroots Nation, SXSW Interactive, Personal Democracy Forum, the National Conference on Media Reform, Facing Race, Web 2.0 Expo, Bioneers, America’s Future Now (formerly “Take Back America”), and Women Action & The Media. To read what people say about my talks, or more information and to bring me to a town near you, check out my roster page at my speakers’ bureau, Aid & Abet, or contact Jen Angel directly at 510-910-5627 or jen@aidandabet.org.

Social media strategy consulting and workshops. I’m the go-to grrl for figuring out what an organization or individual needs to make the most of their presence on social networks like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and more. I don’t believe in selling what’s not needed and highly tailor my solutions for each group that hires me. Clients appreciate my mission-driven approach to developing a program that will work within their budget, staff resources and the myriad of other components that can make or break an implementation.

Teaching is one of the great loves of my life. I have vast experience teaching people broad and/or difficult concepts with an approachable sense. I’ve held social media trainings for the Women’s Media Center, Open Society Institute, the Maynard Insitute for Journalism Education; I’ve presented at Netroots Nation, America’s Future Now, the UNESCO Leadership Forum, Web 2.0 Expo, Personal Democracy Forum, Bioneers, the Media Consortium, the Women, Action and The Media conference, and more. Here are some of my most recent talks, workshops and presentations.

Online technology consulting. Another area of expertise includes doing 3rd-party analysis of an organization or individual’s web presence(s), and making recommendations for improving efficiency and efficacy. I’m known for my to-the-point directives based on the overall mission of the group I’m working with, as well as accounting for subtext goals that might not be obvious to the casual participant. I enjoy working with an organization’s existing tech staff, that they may be engaged in a way that they feel  they are understood, and are a part of the planning process.

I also engage in work I call “client tech advocacy.” Organizations and companies can hire me to guide them through a web redesign or other major tech project, ensuring that the geek wool isn’t pulled over their eyes by vendors and their budgets aren’t exploited. I have the technical background, communication skills and project manager’s brain to make sure my clients get what they need from their online tech vendors, and that they are fiercely protected in the process of doing so.

Web design and development. Navigating the emerging social components of the web takes a delicate hand and a keen eye. I walk my web design clients–generally individuals or small organizations– from A to Z in the process, taking them on the journey with a firm knowledge base to support our work together. Go here for some sites that I’ve worked on, and the services I’ve provided for them. I work predominantly with WordPress when developing on my own, and partner with other agencies and coders for larger projects.

Most projects I work on are on a time-limited basis (i.e., 4 weeks, 3 months, etc.). If you are in need of a permalancer or other ongoing consulting, let me know and I’ll connect you with folks who do this work.
