Let's remember that one of the world's bestselling authors, JK Rowling, was a welfare Mom while writing her first book. There was nothing wrong with her work ethic. She just wasn't Superwoman (able to raise a small child, write a superb book, and hold down a day job at the same time). More on my thoughts on "crowdfunding" on my blog post, "Bedknobs, Broomsticks, and the Business of Writing." - http://www.sarahaiglen.com/?p=614

This is great. I think we should be bringing back some of the 'patronage' of the past - enabling people to do their works without having to scramble to feed and shelter.

Someone else just asked me a few weeks ago if they 'could' go out and ask for people to help him buy a new computer - justifying it with the countless volunteer hours he puts in to help others succeed.

To me it's a no-brainer and it's about supporting the people - not the project. What matters is that you go out and try to create - regardless of what happens this time, your experience will take you farther than you could go any other way.

hey chica, i think you're doing a great thing and naysayers can bug off. i agree: creativity comes from joy, yes! and it's hard to find joy when you're freaked about paying the mortgage (and the doctor, and the vet, and the water company). so keep at it, babe, and know that i've got your back too! hugs -

Great job on the fund raising and congrats on the article! That's a really interesting story. The tips at the end are handy for anyone considering the same thing.

The image of a 40 year old burned out Deanna gives me the shudders.

Glad we dodged that one!
