Viva Berlin

I could go on and on about the month that I spent in Berlin, especially the week that I was traveling around with my mom — we had an absolute blast! Instead, tho, I'll direct you over to my Flickr collection of trip photos, conveniently sectioned off for your browsing pleasure. Enjoy!

My tante Elisabeth and Ruth live in Berlin and an ATM in that city ate my credit card last December. There are good radical roots in that town but the corporate machine also thrives there. Did you notice how close the new U.S. embassy is to the Reichstag? . . . a block away from the holocaust memorial too. Dios mio!
Have you read Jonathan Rabb's "Rosa" ?

Yeah, it was pretty clear in some cases where the definition of the city was headed. What struck me most, though, was how little outdoor advertising there is… I mean, I live in NYC, so I have it to the extreme, but it was so starkly pleasant to me to be walking down Karl-Marx-Allee in these wide open spaces and not be beat down by an onslaught of marketing. Clearly there's a lot more than there used to be, but I didn't realize how bad we had it here.
I've not read "Rosa," no.
